今日はUNIT13の「道順の教え方と答え方」の続きからです。地図を見ながらある場所までの正しい道順を説明します。

「The post office is next to the supermarket.」
「The shopping centre is at the end of hill Street.」
「The bank is opposite the fitness centre.」
「The fitness centre is across the road from the restaurant.」
「The garege is on the corner of East Road and Oak Avenue.」
「The church is next to the bank.」

あとはおすすめを聞きたいときに「Can you recommend a good supermarket?」「Which shop do you recommend for clothes?」などを使ったりしました。

また、それらの文章の中で頻繁に出てくるprepositionの意味を確認しました。prepositionとは前置詞です。atはstationのように周辺、festivalのような催し物、cinemaやpost officeのようなnot clearなものに使います。

inはHokkaidoのように国や地域などclearなもの、holidayのような明確な日付、yearのようにmonthsを含んでいたり、monthのようにdaysを含んでいるものに使います。onはTuesdayのような特定のone dayで使用します。

byは「How you do it」のようなactionやway、withはtoolに用います。まだまだ、prepositionは分類できるので、次回リストを持ってきてくれるそうです。

次にUNIT14の「電車の乗り方」に入ります。電車の乗り方は日常生活での使用頻度が高いので、習い甲斐があります。「Take the Odakyu Line.」「Take a Shinjyuku-bound.」「Go 7 stops.」「Change at Akihabara Station.」が使えれば、ほとんど通じます。

行きたい駅を訪ねるときは「How do I get to Shinagawa station?」「Does this train go to Ebisu?」などでOKです。

最後に「ここから実家までどうやって帰るの？」と質問され、「I get to the train at the Sengawa station, and take the Keio Line bound for Shinjyuku, and then change there to the Soubu Line, go 15 stops, get off Shinkoiwa staition.」と答えました。
